The Belait District Senior Citizens Association (PWE) held a Ma’al Hijrah ceremony yesterday at the hall of the Belait District Office as part of its annual activities to mark the new Islamic year of 1442 Hijrah as well as to commemorate the association’s 25th anniversary on August 9.
Present was Belait District Officer Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin as the guest of honour.
Also present were Legislative Council (LegCo) members Penghulu of Mukim Liang Yang Berhormat Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi Yang Berhormat Awang Hanapi bin Mohd Siput as well as Belait District Head Religious Officer Mohamad Aliyani bin Haji Ismail.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a speech from PWE Chairman Haji David bin Haji Kassim, who expressed hope that the event would serve as a platform to strengthen ties between association members and to encourage senior citizen participation in community work and nation building.
The ceremony also saw a religious talk by Muhammad Nasyith bin Superi, an official from the Islamic Da’wah Centre.
