Forty Sultan Abdul Bubin Primary School students and 30 Haji Mohd Salleh Primary School students received books from the Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) recently.

The books were collected from a month-long Projek Buku Amal conducted during Ramadhan this year.

The initiative was in collaboration between MKM and dBookHaus at The Mall where donors can purchase books for needy students.

The project has raised books for 306 students with each receiving three books.

The books had been vetted to suit the ages of students.

The distribution of books was delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the closure of schools.

MKM President Haji Mohd Yusof bin Shaik Abdul Halim handed over the books during a ceremony at the Sultan Abdul Bubin Primary School. Headmaster Haji Mat Dani bin Haji Abu Bakar attended.

Meanwhile, MKM Vice-President Hajah Juhana binti Haji Jaya handed over books during a ceremony at Haji Mohd Salleh Primary School attended by Headmistress Hajah Nursirinah Eloi binti Abdullah.

The students from both schools are also recipients of MKM’s school breakfast scheme.

“In our interactions with needy families during the charitable projects, we have observed these families do not have any books in the houses for the children to read. We hope this initiative would help inculcate a good reading habit in the students,” said Haji Mohd Yusof.
