Some 1,260 kilogrammes of rubbish was collected during a cleaning campaign organised by Yesfull Care Centre at Muara Beach, joined by the Humanitarian Emergency Aid Response Team (HEART) Volunteers Group as the medical support team.
Steven Chin of Yesfull Care Centre said the campaign drew 230 volunteers this year, comprising students from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) as well as friends of the centre. “We carry out beach cleaning once or twice annually. We’re very grateful for the opportunity to do something meaningful for the country,” he said.
Chin also called on the public against littering public areas such as beaches.
“It’s terrible to go to your favourite beach only to see rubbish everywhere,” he said. “The public needs to uphold their civic duties in keeping Brunei clean and tidy because a clean environment is good for everyone.”
