The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Scholarship Division signed an agreement with the 39 recipients of the Government of His Majesty Scholarship 2020 / 2021 to pursue their first degree abroad, at the Main Conference Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas yesterday.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad as the guest of honour witnessed the signing.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Kesyukuran led by Haji Raminey bin Haji Salleh, followed with a speech from Head of Scholarship at the MoE Julaihi bin Mohamad @ Mohamat.
He said of the 39 students, 34 will pursue their studies in the United Kingdom (UK), two in Australia and Malaysia and one in Ireland.
The recipients previously attended the Jati Diri Berkat Programme from September 21 to 24 as part of preparations before commencing their studies abroad.
Activities in the programme were arranged not only to share information on government scholarship regulations but also to instil values such as life skills, self-confidence, leadership, teamwork, strengthening of belief and character based on the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) concept. The activities will equip students to face challenges during their studies.
In light of COVID-19, Julaihi said students must adapt to the new norms such as online learning.
Department head and senior officials from the MoE, parents, guarantors as well as stakeholders also attended.
