The ‘Seeds for the Future Programme 2020’ took students on a learning journey with Huawei where they virtually toured Hutong Street, explored Huawei laboratories, had technology talks with experts and learnt from modules offered in the programme, Huawei Technologies in Brunei Darussalam CEO Kevin Zhang Jianwei said.
He made these comments at the closing ceremony at Lecture Theatre 2, Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah (PAPRSB), Institute of Health Sciences Extension Building, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). Thirty-four Bruneian students who completed the five-day programme received certificates.
The programme was conducted with support from UBD online virtually at the computer laboratories of PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Chin Wei Keh presented the certificates.
Second Secretary Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Brunei Darussalam Luo Qiang, UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Global Affairs) Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean and representatives from universities and colleges also participated.
Seeds Alumni 2019 Foo Yeun Ming and Seeds 2020 students Siti Aisah binti Janaji and Dayangku Nurul Qayyimah binti Pengiran Haji Masuni shared their experiences on the benefit of Seeds for the Future Programme.
Huawei Technologies in Brunei Darussalam has been working with the MoE since 2015 to provide 32 local ICT undergraduates a two-week study trip to China. In the past years, participants explored Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen and research facilities in Beijing. They also received hands-on ICT training and experienced working for a multinational company and how modern technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are developed and made useful for societies across the world.
‘Seeds for the Future’, Huawei’s flagship global corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, was launched in 2008. The programme aims to develop skilled, local ICT talent and bridge communication between countries and cultures.
By sharing ICT expertise and experiences in the global business environment, young people from different countries can learn about advanced technologies in the ICT industry. Participants can accumulate ICT expertise and skills through the Seeds for the Future Programme and contribute to the progress of the global ICT industry.
