In commemoration of the declaration of independence of Brunei Darussalam on January 1, 1984, a Dikir Brunei event from a selection of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam’s favourites was held at the Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque in Kampong Kulapis yesterday.
The event was co-organised by the Purih Burong Pingai and the Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque Takmir Committee.
Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, and Syariah Appeal Court Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin attended as special guests.
The event began with a mass Maghrib and Sunnat Hajat prayers, along with a Tahlil for Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman, and Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim led by Imam of Pehin Khatib Abdullah Mosque Haji Mohammad Burhanuddin.
Dikir groups from a number of villages within the Brunei-Muara District were also present.
The Dikir ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Mustafa bin Haji Murat followed by the Dikir Assalamualaika brought by the Kampong Burong Pingai Air Dikir group and the Pehin Datu Imam Haji Abdul Mokti Mosque congregants.
A mass Isyak prayer was then carried out prior to a welcoming speech by Purih Burong Pingai Chairman Haji Awang Abdul Hakim who highlighted that the event aims to continue the original Dikir Brunei through organising such an event attended by Dikir groups from different villages to introduce Dikir Brunei to the public, especially youth in attendance as a legacy.
The event then saw the Selawat call (laungan selawat) led by the Minister of Religious Affairs, followed by several Dikirs including Dikir Khairuman Udana Laila, Dikir Bisyahri (Cantek Manis), Dikir Tanaqal Indara, Dikir Ulidal (Udana Laila/Pawang) and Dikir Asraqal Jawi.
The Doa Dikir was then recited by Pengiran Haji Bakar bin Pengiran Haji Ludin, while the Doa Selamat Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam was led by Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Mustafa to conclude the event.
