Educational institutions across the country are holding orientation programmes to welcome new students.
Menglait Gadong Secondary School welcomed its fresh batch of Year 7 students with a three-day event beginning yesterday.
The students were accompanied by a parent, in view of the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) guidelines on mass gathering.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Haji Suwardy Kesuma bin Haji Metussin and welcoming remark by Principal Osman bin Rajab.
Students were briefed on matters related to academics, counselling, library and co-curriculum activities, before taking the student oath.
The ice breaker allowed students to get acquainted with fellow students and teachers.
Anthony Abell College (AAC) also conducted its Year 7 orientation programme for 105 students yesterday.




Principal Mas Diana binti Abdul Samat said the event was crucial to prepare both parents and their children as they embark on their academic journey.
Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman Suhaini bin Haji Othman highlighted the school’s past achievements. He said the school and PTA will continue to prepare more activities this year, and called for students and parents participation.
Deputy Principal (Academic) Claxairi Lasit and Deputy Principal (Administration) Nor Azah binti Haji Marmin briefed the students on the school disciplines, education and co-curriculum activities.
The newbies will continue with their orientation today.
Additionally, Berakas Secondary School kicked off its three-day briefing and orientation for 2021 school session at the Anggerek Hall yesterday, attended by 160 Year 7 students accompanied by their parents/guardians.
The principal welcomed the new students and also lauded students for their achievements in the 2020 Primary School Assessment (PSR).
The orientation programme will include briefings (by the Administration Section, Academic Section, and Operations Management Section), an introduction to the Year 7 teachers, a host of activities and a school tour.
Meanwhile, Lambak Kiri Secondary School’s (SMLK) orientation event for Year 7 students commenced with a recitation of supplications and the national anthem.
The first of the three-day event included briefings on student welfare, administration services and SMLK academic programmes. Students also learnt the school anthem and participated in ice-breaker activities.
The remaining part of the orientation programme will include a tour of the school facilities, an introduction to extra-curricular activity programmes and a closing ceremony headed by Principal Rosmawati binti Mohammad.
