Brunei Darussalam recorded one new imported Covid-19 case yesterday bringing the number of confirmed cases in the country to 174.
With the new imported case, 18 active covid-19 cases are receiving treatment at the National Isolation Centre (NIC) in the Tutong District.
One case admitted to the Intensive Care Unit showed signs of recovery and has been moved to the medical ward.
Other patients are in a stable condition.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar shared details of the latest imported case at a press conference yesterday.
The minister said Case 174 is a 28-year-old man who arrived in the country on BI4112 flight on December 30, 2020 from India.
He showed no signs of infection and is being monitored and treated at the NIC.
The authorities are currently conducting contact tracing for the case.
The minister also highlighted that with the detection of the new case, 33 import cases have been confirmed since the last local infection case was reported on May 6, 2020; Brunei Darussalam recorded 251 days without local transmissions.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham shared that 593 individuals are undergoing mandatory self-isolation at monitoring centres provided by the government after travelling from abroad.
At present, 11,096 individuals have completed self-isolation at monitoring centres.
In the past 24 hours, he said, “235 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus bringing the number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 85,871.”
