Five men were nabbed for their alleged involvement in drug activities in a raid in Kampong Birau, Tutong District on Monday, during which home-made firearms were also uncovered.

According to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), a search uncovered straw packets containing crystallised substances believed to be syabu or methamphetamine weighing 2.97 grammes, as well as BND301 believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs.

NCB said the case is being investigated under Section 3A of the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA), Chapter 27 for the possession of Class A drugs over 100 grammes for the purpose of distribution, which carries the death penalty.

The men were also charged under Section 6(a) of the MDA, Chapter 27 for the possession of controlled drugs; Section 6(b) of the MDA Chapter 27 for the consumption of controlled drugs and Section 7 of the MDA Chapter 27 for the possession of drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, following the discovery of the home-made weapons, the case was handed over to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), who will carry on the investigation.

The NCB said they will continue to conduct raids and investigations on drug-related activities in Brunei Darussalam. The public is welcome to relay information on any suspicious activities.
