TO ENCOURAGE members of the public, including students, to take part in the Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Products and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Award 2017, a team from the CIPTA 2017 Working Committee continued their roadshow yesterday in the Tutong District with a stop at the Seri Kenangan Hall, Tutong District Civic Centre Complex.
The roadshow was attended by students, penghulus and village heads as well as members of the public.
Haji Sharul Tazrajiman bin Haji Tajuddin from the CIPTA 2017 Technical Committee delivered a presentation on different categories of the competition, rules and regulations, prizes and awards, important dates, the judging process, as well as examples of projects submitted in previous CIPTA competitions.
This was followed by a presentation from Dr Sharina Yunus, a member of the Secretariat Committee.
At the end of the presentations, an open forum was conducted to enable the audience to raise questions on the contest.
A mini-exhibition that featured past CIPTA projects also took place at the event.
CIPTA 2017 is the seventh instalment of the biennial competition organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd as the main sponsor.
The competition has the following objectives: to inspire youth and the public to develop creative products, processes or technologies for national and Asean aspirations; to encourage inventions and innovations from the participants; to recognise and award creative talents in the country as well as at the Asean level; to encourage research and development in Brunei; to promote industrial and manufacturing processes, technological products developments, commercialisation and entrepreneurship in the country; to motivate and instil the culture of science, engineering and technology into the youth and public, as well as to foster collaborative linkages within Brunei and the Asean region.
The competition is open to all schools, technical and tertiary academic institutions, government and private organisations and the general public.
There are three main competitions: Category 1, 2 and 3 for local participants; the Smart Junior Competition, and the Asean Category.
Each entry will be judged based on novelty and creativity; deployment of the end product; social, economic and sustainable design considerations, as well as the project report and presentation.
The assessment of submitted projects will be conducted in two stages, starting with the preliminary assessment.
Only qualified entries will be allowed to proceed to the final assessment.
The deadline for participation is on October 31.
