HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Deputy Sultan, graced the 4th Haflut Takharruj (convocation ceremony) of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.
The Deputy Sultan who was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik was greeted on arrival by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs, and members of the institute’s board of directors.
Certificates were presented to 11 graduates of the ‘Aliyah Qiraat’ Diploma programme. Out of the 11, four were graded as ‘Mumtaz’ (excellent achievers), six were graded as ‘Jayyid Jiddan’ (very good) and one was graded as ‘Jayyid’ (good).
In his welcoming address, the Minister of Religious Affairs said although the institute focuses on Al-Quran memorisation, it also pays attention to the students’ academic performance which showed in their encouraging results in the Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level and Brunei Religious Education Certificate examinations.
Some of the students who have excelled in the examinations were given the opportunity to pursue their studies in higher education to become professionals in fields other than religious services.
The minister said the three-year ‘Aliyah Qiraat’ Diploma Programme was first introduced in 2010 and is accredited as a National Diploma and a learning stage of Al-Quran knowledge.
The institute in collaboration with MABIMS Al-Quran Studies and Propagation Centre is organising an ‘Al-Quran Understanding Scheme’ targeting participation from government and non-government agencies as well as associations to raise their understanding and appreciation of the Al-Quran.
The convocation ceremony was enlivened with a special religious talk delivered by Dr Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, Deputy Rector of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), as well as a presentation of memorising Quranic verses of Surah Al-Mulk by Haji Muhd Zubair bin Haji Zaini while its meaning was recited by Hezqyl bin Haji Hambali.
