Fishing gets boost as recreational activity

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin officiated Cabaran Memancing Taman Miaji 2021, an event organised by Kampong Tanjung Bunut Village Consultative Council for the first time at Taman Miaji in Kampong Tanjung Bunut recently in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam’s 37th National Day.

Taman Miaji is a recreational park and a fishing spot that features nine ponds with various types of freshwater fish, surrounded by local fruit trees, floral landscape and huts for resting, official events and one for multipurpose use. A mini hiking trail is also available.

The event was aimed at encouraging fishing as a beneficial activity along with promoting the recreational park.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by a welcoming speech by Acting Village Head of Kampong Tanjong Bunut and Chairperson of the organising committee Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Jumat.

He highlighted that the event provided a venue to strengthen ties and solidarity among visitors and anglers from all walks of life.

The event also saw a flora and fauna photography competition to raise public awareness on the importance of preserving nature.

Participants were given the opportunity to take snapshots of their photography materials with their mobilephones around the park and submit the best shot before the day of the event.

Participants aged 70 and above as well as orphans were waived from the entrance fees while students only paid half the fee.

Meanwhile, the fishing challenge was divided into three categories – VIP, Village Head and Open.

A drawing and colouring competition for children was also held on Friday.
