BRUNEI Darussalam will host the 6th International Conference on Islam in the Malay World (ICON IMAD) 2016 which is a collaboration between Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA); Universiti Malaya, Malaysia; Universiti Prince Songkhla, Thailand and Universiti Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati, Indonesia.
In a media conference held yesterday, UNISSA’s Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad, Dean of Arabic Language and Islamic Civilisation Faculty and Dr Lilly Suzana binti Haji Shamsu, Dean of Usuludddin Faculty who are the Joint Chair for the 6th ICON IMAD said the conference will be held at UNISSA’s Auditorium Hall from September 20-23, 2016.
Themed ‘Islam is a Catalyst for Prosperity in the Malay World’, the conference will highlight the role of Islam as catalyst for the global prosperity as well as practising the teachings of Islam as a way of life in accordance to Ahli Sunnah Wal Jama’ ah.
The conference also aims to establish harmony and tolerance among Muslims and non-Muslims in further strengthening the unity and prosperity.
The conference will discuss a total of 67 working papers that will be presented by speakers from Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India and Maldives.
Three languages – Malay, English and Arabic – will be used during the conference.
At the opening ceremony, a premier paper based on this year’s theme will be elaborated by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti of Brunei Darussalam.
According to Dr Siti Sara, the conference will be attended by local and foreign participants. Registration is still open to interested participants, especially academicians, researchers, students from the higher education institutions, as well as the government and private sectors.
According to Dr Lilly Suzana, the interested participants can register and pay the registration fee at UNISSA’s Finance Section or they can do walk-in registration during the actual day.
