A SIGNING ceremony for the six students awarded with the Sultan’s Scholar for the academic session 2016/2017 was held yesterday at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan.
Present as the guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education and Chairman of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) Board of Directors.
The event began with the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah led by Ilmami bin Haji Othman, an officer from the Mosque Affairs Department, followed by a speech by Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail, Managing Director of Yayasan.
In his speech, Haji Brahim explained that out of the six recipients, four will be pursuing their Degrees, one will continue to pursue their Masters, while one more will be pursuing their Doctor in Philosophy (PhD).
The four scholarship recipients for Degree are Kadrina Abdul Latif binti Abdullah, Hajah Izzatul Faizah binti Dr Haji Mohamad, Muhamad Aiman Syafiq bin Haji Ramlee, and Siti Hafizah Al-Haziqah binti Ariffin, while Hajah Andi Diinah Kiasatinah binti Haji Alliasim will be pursuing her Masters, and Tan Zong Hao will be pursuing his PhD.
Furthermore, Haji Brahim highlighted that the event also celebrates Nurul Hani binti Haji Mohd Tahir, a previous Sultan’s Scholar recipient, who successfully completed her studies with a Masters of Engineering (MEng) First Class Honours in Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London, and as an incentive Sultan’s Scholar prize, was awarded with $15,000.
“The Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah ‘Sultan’s Scholar’ Scholarship Scheme began in 2006, and since 2006 until 2015, a total of 38 students have been awarded with the scholarship,” said Haji Brahim.
Continuing the event was the signing ceremony between the Sultan’s Scholar awardees and two guarantors with Yayasan. Signing on behalf of Yayasan was Haji Brahim and Hajah Donnaliza binti Abdullah Puasa, Assistant Managing Director of Yayasan, witnessed by the guest of honour.
The event continued with the recitation of Doa Selamat to bless the ceremony and the Sultan’s Scholar recipients.
Also present during the event were Deputy Chairmen and members of the Yayasan Board of Directors, Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Yayasan Sultan’s Scholar Scholarship Scheme, parents and family members of recipients, officers and staff of Yayasan.
