JERUDONG Park was beating to a rhythmic pulse as the popular theme park played host to the ‘100 Beats 2016,’ which featured over a dozen local drummers and percussionists over the weekend.

Some 250 music lovers witnessed the evening spectacle at the park’s open field (Colonnade), steeping themselves in a mixed palette of music from various genres such as samba, reggae, Korean pop, rock and even traditional music played in a single orchestrated melody.

Instruments used on stage included the bongo, conga, call-bells, Gendang Sunda (Indonesia), gong, timbale, rototoms, Bjembe (African), two drum sets as well as recycled plastic drums.

“We have designed this music event to appeal to the local market. There were more than two dozen different drums used and a few surprise acts from local drum legends from the likes of Zam and Chicco,” said Kamal Gaddafi, co-organiser and performer of the event.

“It’s always good to be in the line-up with some of the best in the industry, getting into studio and preparing and working on the sets… it motivates you to do your best on stage,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jerudong Park Country Club (JPCC) Assistant Officer Evy Vaizura binti Haji Abdul Raup explained the event was one of the initiatives to relive the theme park as a local entertainment hub and “a good place to support and gather local talents.”

All performers took the stage for the finale of the three-hour show, meeting public expectations and ending on a high note.

The ‘100 Beats 2016’ was organised in-collaboration with Kamaloko Entertainment Group, Jerudong Park Country Club and Progresif as event partners, and ONAS Music Production House as the official studio.
