SOME 35 Qaris (male Al-Quran readers) and 13 Qariahs (female Al-Quran readers) will go on to the semi-finals of the annual National Musabaqah Al-Quran Adult Level 2016 competition following the conclusion of the quarter-finals that saw the participation of 68 Qaris and 23 Qariahs.
The names of the semi-finalists were announced at Kampong Belimbing Mosque in Subok yesterday.
Deputy Minister of Development Dato Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar presented gifts and certificates to the participants at the event, which was also attended by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Harun bin Haji Junid and Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah.
The quarter-finals took place at Kampong Belimbing Mosque from October 24 – 27.
The semi-finals will be held in November.
Among the criteria for the quarter-finalists to advance to the semi-finals was to get marks above 80 per cent.
The event began with the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah by the Imam of Kampong Belimbing Mosque.
