A DISCUSSION session was organised yesterday by the Curriculum Development Department under the Ministry of Education (MoE), involving teachers in charge of textbooks for government sixth form centres, secondary schools, colleges and primary schools.
The discussion was held to provide information about the status of textbooks and workbooks for 2017, obtain feedback and enable MoE officers to interact with the teachers in charge of textbooks.
The session was chaired by Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Nawi, the Director of the Curriculum Development Department, who told the gathering, “I wish to announce that a total of 19 new book titles will be used in 2017. These books include those on the subjects of Mathematics and Bahasa Melayu, as well as books on anti-corruption education for primary schools and a Year 11 Arabic Language book for secondary schools.
“There are four new textbooks and four new workbooks for mathematics. The Mathematics textbooks are currently in the process of distribution to schools, and the workbooks are currently available in stores.”
He also added that two new textbooks and two new workbooks have been issued for Bahasa Melayu, with a shipment from Singapore scheduled to arrive towards the end of November.
The distribution of the Bahasa Melayu textbooks has been set for December, while the workbooks will also go on sale in December.
“There is one new Arabic Language textbook for Year 11 which will be distributed this November, and six books on anti-corruption education. Additional books will be available at stores in February 2017.
“With regards to the supply and distribution of these books, I would like to advise that the schools will be able to cooperate in addressing the acceptance of these books, if the distribution is carried out in December during the school holidays.”
Concluding his speech, he said, “I hope that all parties will be able to cooperate in dealing with issues pertaining to the management of textbooks in schools, to provide the best service towards the ministry’s vision.”
About 160 teachers from government secondary schools, colleges and primary schools attended the session, which was presented by Hajah Asnah binti Haji Wahab, the Acting Head of the Publication Unit at the Curriculum Development Department.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Department of Schools, the Department of Administration and Services, the Brunei Darussalam Teachers Academy, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the private education sector and several school clusters.
