BRUNEI Darussalam midfielder Rosmin Kamis has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 35 following the end of his country’s campaign in the AFC Solidarity Cup in Kuching, Malaysia on Monday.

The DPMM FC midfielder has earlier provided the clearest of indications that the tournament could be his final swansong on social media during the team’s journey to Kuching.

The midfielder confirmed of his decision on the eve of their third place playoff against Laos at the Sarawak Stadium.

“Will play my last international match tonight for the 3rd place against Laos. Alhamdulillah, thanks Allah the Almighty for giving me this opportunity throughout my career, giving me a chance to start with the best and finish with among the best players,” Rosmin said in a statement.

“Would like to thank my wife, kids, the entire family and friends for giving me support during the ups and downs, all the coaches who make me the player I am today,” the statement added.

“Hopefully God will reward your kind service that you have provided all this while, Amin,” Rosmin said.

The central midfielder first joined Brunei FA in the 2000 season which were playing in the Malaysian league system before moving to current club side DPMM FC which replaced Brunei’s spot in the Malaysia Premier League.

Despite being recognised as a great servant in the country’s football for over a decade, it was not until 2012 aged 31 when he made his international debut during the AFF qualifiers (Asean Football Federation) in a 1-0 defeat against Myanmar.

He was part of the team in the country’s closest attempt of advancing to the AFF tournament proper since the country’s only involvement during the tournament’s inception in 1996.

The midfielder claimed his first and only international goal in the same qualifying tournament in the 3-1 defeat against Laos during Kwon Oh Son’s reign as national coach.

Rosmin served as captain in the 2012 and 2014 tournaments and though he retained his captaincy in 2016, he was not selected in the starting line-up as Faiq Jefri Bolkiah was made captain.

The midfielder started the first group game of the AFC Solidarity Cup against Timor Leste in the 4-0 win as captain in an emergency centre-back role after the country’s first-choice central defence partnership of Reduan Petara and Yura Indera Putera were ruled out of the competition.

The long-serving DPMM FC captain made 12 appearances for his country spanning four years of international duty.
