A TOTAL of 180 students from four government schools have benefited from the ‘Breakfast for School’ pilot project initiated by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan), in partnership with the Ministry of Education’s Department of Schools, with support from Royal Brunei Catering Sdn Bhd (RBC), Gardenia Food Industries Sdn Bhd and the Brunei Four-Wheel Drive Association.
Since January this year, the underprivileged students from Masin Secondary School, Awang Semaun Secondary school, Junjungan Primary School and Lumapas Primary School were provided with a nutritional breakfast so that they will not attend school on an empty stomach.
Dubbed as ‘food from the heart’, the project is being mooted for a number of schools in Kuala Belait and Seria following a recent meeting to discuss the implementation of the programme in the Belait District.
Details on the success of the ‘Breakfast for School’ pilot project were highlighted by Hajah Donnaliza binti Abdullah Puasa, the Assistant Managing Director of Yayasan in her speech at the appreciation ceremony for the contributor of Breakfast for School yesterday held at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah complex.
She revealed that the programme has impacted not only the students but also individual teachers and schools in general.
“The programme has helped to strengthen discipline and raise the sense of responsibility among majority of students. Improving their attendance as well as their focus on studies, while raising the sense of caring and volunteer services,” she said.
“Findings from schools that receive the service have revealed that students felt the sense of caring and it has helped them in their studies,” she added.
Hajah Donnaliza also conveyed her gratitude to the partners of the programme namely RBC, Gardenia and sponsors as well as volunteers from Yayasan and Brunei Four-Wheel Drive Association.
On hand to present the certificates of appreciation to the contributors of the programme was the guest of honour, Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail, the Managing Director of Yayasan.
