THE 3rd Southeast Asian GO Championship curtains were officially raised yesterday by Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, at D’Anggerek Serviced Apartment’s function room.
The championship, hosted by Brunei through the Brunei Darussalam Go Association will run for two days, Saturday and Sunday, December 3-4, 2016 from 8.30am – 5.30pm.
The event will see the participation of teams from 10 countries namely Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong, China and host country Brunei, with the youngest participant aged 11 years old.
Among the aims of the event were to foster Asean friendship through the game of Go, a cultural bonding/friendship game for every one of all ages and background. At the same time, the event also serves to promote Brunei tourism in all aspects such as cuisine and culture.
The event was approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Youth and Sports Department, with official media partner Brunei Press; official accommodation D’Anggerek Serviced Apartment; official visitor sim-card Progresif; and official restaurants Yum-a-Cha by Misato, iCrave Kopitiam, Aminah Arif Restaurant and Pondok Sari Wangi.
