THE Mosque Affairs Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, in collaboration with mosque committee members of the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong, recently organised a two-day Al-Quran reading competition at the multipurpose hall of the mosque.
The competition was participated by 11 men and 11 women and was open to all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide.
The winner in the competition’s male category was Yusrun bin Jahari while Nur Nazihah Assyakirah binti Haji Isa emerged as the winner in the female category.
Present to hand over the prizes to the winners during a ceremony was Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administrative and Financial Affairs) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, in his capacity as guest of honour.
Haji Haris bin Haji Suboh, the Acting Senior Religious Officer of Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, who was also the co-chairperson of the competition, hoped for readers to exert more effort and uphold the sanctity of the Al-Quran as well as to uplift the Islamic teachings in the country.
The second edition of the competition was held to mark the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) 1438 Hijrah.
The competition was organised to answer His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s call for the sultanate to become a Zikir Nation and to improve the quality of their reading.
