AS PART of the Innovation Partnership between Ferrari and Shell, five Shell Eco-marathon (SEM) teams were invited to Ferrari’s world-famous Fiorano Circuit this week to set the most fuel efficient lap of the iconic test track.
Before the results were in, the cars made history by being the first purpose-built fuel-efficient vehicles in the world to drive the layout that was built in 1972, and later resurfaced using Shell Cariphalte in 2002.
The challenge was part of a wider event held for the winners of the inaugural Drivers’ World Championship (DWC), held this summer at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as part of Shell’s Make the Future Festival, a four-day festival of ideas and innovation.
Team 4 from Indonesia – Bumi Siliwangi, won the DWC. They were awarded an exclusive Scuderia Ferrari experience in Maranello. Other visiting teams include HE-ARC Ingénierie from Switzerland, Politecnico Di Torino from Italy, Lycée Saint-Joseph La Joliverie from France and Hochschule Offenburg from Germany.
Mattia Binotto, Chief Technical Officer Scuderia Ferrari said, “The Bumi Siliwangi students have spent a week with us working through a variety of workshops at Museo Ferrari and learning more about the way we work as a team in order to improve their vehicles ahead of the 2017 Shell Eco-marathon Drivers’ World Championship. It was great to work with such a motivated group of students who really are pushing the boundaries of efficiency, and this was made possible due to the Innovation Partnership with Shell, which sees us work more closely together than ever before both on and off the track.”
“This week with Scuderia Ferrari is something that none of us will ever forget. As engineers, the lessons learnt and advices from some of the best engineers in the world were special. We are a small team from Indonesia and Shell Eco-marathon has provided us with this opportunity to showcase our car and efforts on a global stage,” Ramdhani, driver of Bumi Siliwangi said.
