THE Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Study Team was recently in the country from December 12 to 14 on a working visit to generate a project for strengthening the institutional and policy framework on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation integration.
It is under the Asean Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) Work Programme 2016-2020 coordinated by the Asean Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM).
Their working visit involved sites frequently affected by floods and fire in the Tutong and Belait Districts.
They were also met at the Lamunin and Sungai Liang Fire Stations for briefings.
The team members wanted to find the best practices for flood mitigation and the adaptation of climate change in Brunei.
Besides visiting flood-prone areas, the JICA delegates also visited the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC), Brunei Darussalam Meterological Department and the Public Works Department.
