THE Bangladeshi expatriate community in Kuala Belait led by the High Commissioner-designate of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam, Air Vice Marshall Mahmud Hussain, celebrated their nation’s 45th Victory Day at the Serikandi Restaurant in Kuala Belait recently.
In an interview, the high commissioner-designate said that it was exactly 45 years ago that Bangladesh achieved its independence from an arms struggle of about nine months. It was a momentous event for all the Bangladesh nationals.
“In this event, we also try to connect between the past and the present, and relate it to the future particularly with regard to our nation’s Vision 2031 and Vision 2041,” he said.
Commenting on the Bangladesh expatriate community in Brunei, the high commissioner-designate expressed his joy to find the expatriate community in Brunei doing well.
“We have long lasting friendship with Brunei, and I feel proud that the community has good contributions in the process of Brunei’s development. Brunei is also a strong partner to Bangladesh’s development process, particularly in relation to the sustainable development goals,” he added.
During the evening the high commissioner-designate also officiated the launching of a photo gallery related to the Bangladesh independence process. Other highlights of the evening were a speech (in Bangladesh) by the high commissioner-designate and a performance of songs from members of the expatriate community.
