STANDARD Chartered Bank (SCB) recently handed over a cheque of $6,000 in support to the Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind (BDNAB) at the NGO’s new headquarters at Plaza Athirah, Jalan Kubah Makam Diraja.
The event was attended by Mohammad Hamzi bin Omar, Deputy President of BDNAB, a press release said.
Marilyn Graeme, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing at SCB who made the cheque handover on behalf of the bank applauded BDNAB’s community work in raising awareness on the causes of blindness, the essential prevention practices and understand the challenges of the blind and their accessibility.
The bank, a supporter of BDNAB for more than 10 years, “is delighted to be able to continue supporting their cause,” she said.
‘Seeing is believing’ is the bank’s global initiative to tackle avoidable blindness and visual impairment, a collaboration with International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and leading eye care organisations. It raises funds for investment in eye care projects that aim to have long-term impact in areas of high need.
Standard Chartered has committed to raising US$100 million by 2020 for the programme through fundraising and bank investment.
In Brunei, Standard Chartered continues to demonstrate its commitment to the visually impaired community by working closely with the Special Education Unit, eye clinic and the BDNAB on various initiatives.
