LIM Hui Yuan recently made history by becoming one of two students at Singapore’s Hwa Chong International School (HCIS) to achieve perfect scores of 45 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

The HCIS is an international centre for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The total score is 45 marks for six subjects: Language and Literature, Basic Language, Humanity, Science, Mathematics and Art.

Every year representatives from the HCIS will come to Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS), to select and interview qualified students for their school.

Lim Hui Yuan, 17, expressed gratitude to her family and teachers for their support, saying that the study system was very different from the ‘O’ Level syllabus in Brunei.

Aside from Lim, only Yeap Yee Sing, a Singaporean, achieved the full score of 45 marks in the IBDP examination.

A total of 1,849 students who took the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma examinations in Singapore in November 2016 performed strongly, with 97.32 per cent passing and 57 scoring the maximum possible 45 points, according to the IB foundation.

Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate is a non-profit foundation, with more than 1.3 million IB students attending about 4,580 schools in 150 countries and territories. About 508 schools in the Asia Pacific offer the Diploma Programme.
