THE Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman continued his working visit yesterday to the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School (SMALHB) in Jalan Tutong.
The visits aimed to support and appreciate families and parents who have chosen to enrol their children into Arabic schools and to ensure that such schools are doing what they can to enhance the use of Arabic Language.
The minister stated that the school currently has 650 students with about 86 of them taking the general stream and this shows the parents’ confidence in Arabic schools.
“This working visit is to ensure that Arabic schools have relevant programmes to enhance the use of Arabic Language and so far, I have found that there are programmes that have started and have been enhanced in order to create an Arabic Language atmosphere in Arabic schools,” said the minister.
Also seen during the working visit was the registration of the new Pre-University 1 intake which totalled 347 new students enrolling in the school.
Out of the total, 190 students are taking Syariah, 88 students are taking Usuluddin, 21 students are taking Lughah Arabiah, 20 students are taking Umum I and another 28 students are taking Umum II.
The working visit of the minister was also to express support of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) for the efforts of the Islamic Studies Department and Arabic school administration towards preparation, assessment, strategy and goals of the schools.
Upon arrival, the minister and his delegation were welcomed by the Principal of SMALHB, Ustazah Hajah Norjainah binti Haji Buntar, as well as the teachers and staff members of SMALHB.
The minister visited several classrooms and interacted with new Pre-University (Pra-U1) students and teachers.
Also present during the visit were Permanent Secretary at the MoRA, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, and Acting Director of Islamic Studies, Ustazah Hajijah binti Haji Moktal.
