AS part of efforts to elevate and empower the Malay Language amongst the community, particularly the younger generation, the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) has put continuously organised the ‘Dudun Bahasa’ or Language Visit activity at a number of schools across the country.
Yesterday, some 100 students from pre-school up to Year 6 attended a briefing on the Dudun Bahasa led by Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak, the Head of Language Development and Growth of DBP.
She explained that the activity’s main objective was to uphold His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s wishes and declaration of July as the Language Month.
Apart from being one of DBP’s annual activities, the Dudun Bahasa also serves as platform for youth to learn about different Malay dialects aside from the standard, she said.
Furthermore, the programme, she continued, aims to educate the students from a young age on the correct usage of the Malay language.
The students also actively took part in some games, quizzes and many other activities.
