THE Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department has imposed fines on two companies in the vicinity of the Jalan Bunut area whom were found to have disposed rubbish indiscriminately at public places during the ‘Ops Bersih’ operation yesterday.
Both signage/billboard manufacturing companies were each levied with the fine of $200 for the offence under the Minor Offence Act. Under the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30 of Section 12(1), the storing or disposal of any items in public places is an offence. The company, which was levied with the compound fine, must settle the fine within seven days.
If the company fails to settle the fine, the matter will be referred to court and if found guilty, the punishment will be $1,000 or a month’s imprisonment for the first convicted offence. For subsequent offences, the punishment will be $3,000 fine or imprisonment of not more than three months.
The Law Enforcement Unit of BSB Municipal Department urged companies to maintain the cleanliness of their premises as well as to comply with the various regulations under the Minor Offences Act.
Any complaints on rubbish dumping in public areas can be forwarded to 2244151 ext 127/234 or complaints can be lodged at the Office of Law Enforcement Unit.
