A BRUNEIAN duo took first place for the third time in RTM Miri FM’s two-day ‘Bermukun Sa Borneo’ competition recently.
The competition organised by the broadcasting company saw 33 teams from Miri, Bekenu, Limbang, Bintulu, Mukah, Labuan and Brunei Darussalam.
Brunei’s ‘Kumpulan Mukun Selendang Sutera’ – comprising Irwan Rino bin Nordin and Wan Zuraimi bin Julaihi – was crowned champion, winning a trophy and $1,000 cash, while Limbang and Sarawak were placed second, and Mukah placed third.
In an interview, Irwan Rino said that it is the fourth time he has joined the competition since its establishment in 2012. Irwan said he began preparations from the moment he received the invitation, which include dance practices, vocal stamina practices well as the construction of ‘pantun’ (poem).
Brunei had also sent representatives to compete in the Youth Category (18 years and below) and won second place, a close tie with the champion from Miri, Sarawak.
