UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) made history when Gita Afriani Putri was hailed as the best debater in the 4th Inter-University Arabic Language Debate Competition, which took place recently in Doha, Qatar.
The UNISSA team was represented by Mohammad Bahauddin bin Haji Abu Bakar, Jupriadi bin Ramli, Siti Norafina binti Haji Yusof and Gita Afriani Putri.
They were accompanied by Dr Omari Abdallah Semasaba, a lecturer at UNISSA.
The debate, held every two years, was divided into two parts – for speakers of Arabic as a first language, and for non-Arabic speakers.
This year, 87 universities from 48 countries participated in the competition.
