THE Brunei Darussalam National Boat Racing team is set to participate in the International 18-Man Paddler 1000 metres event of the International Dragon Boat Festival in Kedah, Malaysia on May 7 to 8.
The race will play out at Tanjung Chali in Alor Setar Kedah, as part of celebration to mark the 89th birthday of Sultan Kedah.
In view of this, a ceremony was held Tuesday at Peranginan Damuan in Jalan Tutong, Brunei Darussalam National Boat Race Association (PERKEBAR) President Haji Haris bin Haji Ibrahim to hand over the flag to the national team manager of Brunei Darussalam.
The participation of the Brunei team comes following an invitation from the Government of the State of Kedah Darul Aman. This is its fifth participation in the particular event.
According to the National Boat Racing Association, the team will be participating in several tournaments overseas including the 4th Sabah FCAS International Dragon Boat Race 2017, the 1st International Dragon Boat Regatta 2017, the 1st International Dragon Boat Race 2017, DBS Marina Regatta Singapore 2017, Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta 2017 and Penang Pesta Dragon Boat Festival 2017.
In the meantime, PERKEBAR is preparing for the National Traditional Boat Racing Championships 2017, expected to take place in July.
