THE Brunei Darussalam Netball Association (BNA) is sending off the Brunei Darussalam Netball National Team for exposure matches with teams in Singapore today.

Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah, Team Official of BNA said the team need further exposure, get the strategies correct and also expose themselves in games against Asian teams.

“The Brunei Netball National Team is quite above than the local clubs and going against teams from other regions is to step themselves up. After the exposure match against Sri Lanka previously, I think the team need to get the attacking side more fluent and also the defenders need to be more alert to anticipate the opponent’s pass and movements.

“The team showed major development and I think the exposure matches will help us to develop even further.

“I think we need to be mentally strong, play smarter, just keep going, not give up, and strive to become better,” Her Royal Highness said.

Thilaka Jinadasa, Brunei Darussalam’s Netball Head Coach said, “The team really need exposure matches as we are starting the competitive period. We will go again after the fasting month to prepare ourselves if we are selected for the upcoming prestigious Southeast Asian Games.

“We plan to play four games against four leading clubs in Singapore, to identify who will be selected to be the first 12 for the team.

“The exposure matches against Sri Lanka recently gave us experience on how to handle situations in matches and to never underestimate playing against younger players. We have identified some of our weaknesses and adapted some strategies around it.

“We will be playing against Sneakers, Magic Merlin, Polytechnic and a recreational club in Singapore. All the teams have some senior and national players. It will be a good experience for us and playing against Singapore is always good, for us to develop.

“Training sessions are being conducted according to my plan and I expect good results towards the end of the day.

“Brunei need to gain more experience, and exposure matches are really important for the team to develop, as training is not enough.

“The girls need to be focussed, alert, calm in court and implement the techniques from what they have been practising. I think the team is ready,” the coach who is from Sri Lanka said.
