FOUR student teams took part in the third preliminary round of the Faraday Do-It-Yourself Challenge recently organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Brunei Young Professional Section (YPS), at the SEAMEO Voctech building in Gadong.
Representing the Awang Semaun Secondary School, International School Brunei (ISB), Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait and Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School, the students were given the opportunity to design prototype solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems.
Organised with the collaboration of the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC), the exercise gave the students some insights into the roles and responsibilities of an engineering team, as they were required to explain their ideas, costs and implementation plans to a panel of judges.
The teams from Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait and ISB were declared the joint winners of the third round, each receiving $200.
Both teams will proceed to the finals of the IET Brunei Faraday Do-It-Yourself Challenge, later this year.
The prizes were presented by Simon Kian Ann, the IET Brunei Darussalam Honorary Chairman, for the 2014-2017 sessions.
