THE Information Department under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) through its Nationhood Unit, Nationhood and Community Division yesterday began the Civic Village programme for graduates of Brunei Darussalam which will be held until May 19 at the department’s auditorium building.
The guest of honour yesterday was Mawardi bin Haji Mohammad, the Acting Director of Information.
The event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah accompanied by a Doa Selamat and a singing of the national anthem, followed by the guest of honour’s welcoming speech.
In his speech, Mawardi explained that the programme is a project implemented through the department’s work strategy of ‘Face-to-face Communication’ which is in line with the vision of the department as a leading government agency to deliver and disseminate official government information.
Among the information, said Mawardi, are government policies and purposes so that the citizens and residents will be able to understand, support and appreciate effectively, as well as to connect the people and government representatives towards ‘Cultivating an Informative Society’.
The acting director added that the programme was a platform towards equipping participants to be competitive, able to face challenges and seize government opportunities.
The event also saw a briefing on the Civic Village programme and an introduction of the committee members prior to the departure of participants to the designated locations.
A total of 45 participants are taking part in the programme, comprising 21 male and 24 female graduates of institutions from the United Kingdom, Australia, Egypt and Malaysia as well as locally from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB).
The participants will be staying at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex Hall for six days and five nights, where they will also be given the opportunity to take part in a number of sessions, such as briefings, dialogue and group brainstorming sessions, teamwork activities, sports and leisure, religious and charity activities, as well as visits.
