IN PROMOTING the local art scene, Brunei Tourism Development Department has joined forces with education institutions and private artists to set up a once-monthly art gallery exhibition at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, while at the same time supporting the car-free Sunday ‘Bandarku Ceria’ programme in the heart of the capital.
Art students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, together with Ratna Maria’s Arts & Craft and local artist Miqdame showcased their creative masterpieces at the exhibition yesterday.
Speaking to the Bulletin, second year UBD student Nur Ayling Pudarno said the exhibition provides an avenue to expose local artworks to the public, and hopes more of such exhibitions will be held to help promote the works of local artists.
Nur Ayling feels she is able to express herself through art, having developed a deep love for it at a young age.
Meanwhile, Pre-University student Lu Shir Mao of Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College said, “This is a good idea for artists to display and sell their artwork.”
Developing a passion for art at four years, Lu Shir Mao is no stranger to having his masterpieces displayed. He has joined many an art exhibition in the past, and hopes to continue producing more artworks in the future.
