A LARGE-SCALE cleaning campaign, organised by Panaga School with assistance from Beach Bunch, was held recently at three different locations along Belait beach.

Participants gathered at three assembly points – Silver Jubilee Park, E1 Panaga Housing Area, and the Billionth Barrel Monument in Seria.

The campaign saw a total of 192 participants comprising students of the Panaga School along with their parents as well as students and staff from Perdana Wazir Secondary School, Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, Lumut Primary School, and members of various organisations and bodies from the Belait District. These include the Marine Department of Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd (BSP), Lion Club of Belait District, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Hainan Association, QET Sdn Bhd, and Korean Register (B) Sdn Bhd.

Over 1,821kg of unwanted items and trash were collected.

The President of Beach Bunch, Rizan Latif, said Beach Bunch has always been supportive of the various proactive organisations that have shown interest in maintaining the cleanliness of beaches throughout the country. He added that the campaign is also a good opportunity to gather statistics and useful information on the types of trash collected.

He said the statistics can be used to educate the public on the types of trash being collected and what they can do to prevent further pollution to beaches.

He added that Beach Bunch is willing to provide necessary assistance for future beach cleanups.
