COMPETING in a major international competition was a life-changing experience for Awangku Abdul Qadir bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim.
He was among the Brunei delegation participating in the 21st International Al-Quran Memorisation Competition in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which ended on June 15.
Awangku Abdul Qadir, accompanied by his father and Ustaz Muhammad Nur Hanis bin Ismail, the Delegation Manager, returned home on June 16.
In an interview, Awangku Abdul Qadir said by participating in the contest he gained valuable expe-rience not only in memorising the holy Quran but also in pronunciation and Tajweed.
The student from Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah told the Sunday Bulletin that he recently completed his Diploma in Tahfiz and Qiraat. This was his first appearance in an international competition.
Some 100 memorisers of the Quran from around the world competed in the annual competition, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE as well as the Ruler of Dubai.
Participants, who had to perfectly memorise and eloquently recite the holy Quran in full, faced stiff competition.
