NINE financial officers were celebrated during the Fiqh Muamalat Professional Programme (FMPP) Graduation Ceremony held by the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM) for successfully completing their programme. The ceremony was held at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom in The Empire Hotel & Country Club yesterday.
Present as the guest of honour was Yusof bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Managing Director of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) as Chairman of CIBFM.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by welcoming remarks by the guest of honour.
In his speech, Awang Yusof highlighted CIBFM’s achievement in producing a total of 26 graduates of FMPP thus far from two intakes, which signifies a great start in the efforts of increasing the number of Islamic finance experts in the Sultanate.
“CIBFM plays a very important role and must always be aware of the training requirements needed by the financial industry to reach its aspirations,” added the chairman of CIBFM.
Awang Yusof later added that Islamic finance education needs to be looked at as a whole and requires cooperative efforts between CIBFM, financial industries, industry experts, Islamic scholars and experts, academic members and researchers to create a strong platform to enhance the knowledge and skill in Islamic finance.
The managing director of AMBD also said that it requires an in-depth strategy by financial institutions to emphasise on human capital development as a higher priority; to expose and involve individuals that have an academic background in Islamic finance as Syariah advisors, academic members and participants of the Islamic finance industry in international Islamic finance forums and conferences; as well as to create continuous dialogue between the CIBFM, industries, education institutions and higher education institutions to improve learning curriculum programmes.
“CIBFM offers professional programmes and certification of the highest quality, in line with the needs of the current market, to produce young talented Islamic finance experts through a unique and progressive education programme according to the suitable proficiency level,” added Awang Yusof.
Prior to the certificate presentation ceremony, two Islamic finance experts from Malaysia – Dato Dr Daud bin Bakar from Amanie Advisors, and Dr Zulkifli Hassan from Universiti Sains Malaysia, shared their knowledge and experience on the global issues and matters of Islamic finance.
FMPP is a signature programme introduced by CIBFM in 2012 as a part time programme endorsed by AMBD and Syariah Financial Supervisory Board (SFSB) Brunei Darussalam, and is divided into three phases, such as Phase I – Theory, Phase II – Mentorship Programme, and Phase III – International Exposure.
CIBFM as the Centre for Excellence under AMBD has an important role in ensuring programmes conducted by CIBFM are credible and of the highest quality to gain global recognition.
Knowledge disseminated from these programmes is also ensured to be relevant in raising standards and performance of the Islamic finance sector in Brunei Darussalam.
