TWO Bruneian bloggers joined other Asean bloggers and media members in the Asean Media Bloggers Tourism Hunt 2017 in Malaysia, which will run from July 10-15.
Organised by Tourism Malaysia, the Asean Media Bloggers Tourism Hunt is aimed at promoting Malaysian tourism products, particularly to the Southeast Asian market.
Participants will be involved in activities such as ‘fly-drive’ and ‘explore race’, and quizzed on Malaysia’s tourist attractions.
The tourism hunt, themed ‘Fun and Enjoyable Drive to Experience Malaysia’, will also see the bloggers and media representatives driving around Malaysia and experiencing its culture, heritage, arts and cuisine as they move on from task to task.
The event will kick off in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital city.
As with the hunt’s previous edition, this year’s flag off point will be at the Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC), just a stone’s throw away from the Petronas towers.
The event will be flagged off by Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia; Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia; and senior officials from Tourism Malaysia and AirAsia – the event’s official sponsor.
Characterised by gleaming skyscrapers, colonial architecture, charming locals, and a myriad of natural attractions, Kuala Lumpur is also home to the tallest twin buildings in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers; the skyscrapers have become an iconic symbol of Malaysia’s rapid and futuristic development.
A one-stop centre, MaTiC helps visitors plan their holidays by providing information and guides on accommodation, travel tips, transportation arrangements and ticketing, booking of tour packages, as well as foreign exchange services. The centre works along the vision of placing Malaysia on the global map as one of the world’s finest tourist destinations.
Moving on from Kuala Lumpur, event participants will stop over at Ipoh, the capital city of the state of Perak and the third-largest city in Malaysia.
Located approximately 180km northwest of Kuala Lumpur, Perak is where nature, culture, delicious food and warm people merge to form an inviting experience which will enchant visitors and have them returning for more.
The city was named as the 6th best place to visit in Asia by Lonely Planet in June 2016.
Next up is Putrajaya, the hunt’s final waypoint. Dubbed the “Intelligent Garden City”, Putrajaya is the federal administrative capital of Malaysia. Much organisation and planning have gone into the development of the city, which today is marked with the latest communication technologies and progressive infrastructure.
Its streets are elegantly designed with European and Middle-East influences; its roads are well-paved, while the government buildings embody a blend of modern and Islamic architecture.
Commercial, authoritative and residential areas have been divided into precincts which meld with each other cohesively, while a waterway cuts harmoniously through the city, before exiting into a large lake.
The cityscape, while covered with lots of parks, greenery and wetlands, remains balanced and not overwhelmed by the verdure.
