FIVE abandoned vehicles were towed away during a joint clean-up operation at the complex of Bangunan Haji Untong along Jalan Pasar Baharu in Kampong Kiarong yesterday.
The Law Enforcement Unit of the BSB Municipal Department said that appropriate action will be taken.
The joint operation also included personnel from the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi), and the Land Transport Department (JPD) as well as a scrap metal company.
Three other abandoned vehicles were also discovered during the operation.
The owners of the three aba-ndoned vehicles found within the vicinity of the scrap yard, were given one week to remove them.
Meanwhile, two workshops were issued with fines by the Law Enforcement Unit of the BSB Municipal Department under Chapter 30, Section 12 (1) of the Minor Offences Act for storing items or disposing them in public places.
The Law Enforcement Unit urged all companies to maintain the cleanliness of their premises as well as to comply with various regulations under the Minor Offences Act.
It also said that owners of vehicles who abandon their vehicles in public areas will have their cars removed under Section 84, Chapter 68 of the Road Traffic Act.
The enforcement personnel will continue to conduct similar inspections in areas under the jurisdiction of the BSB Municipal Department.
