SECRETARY of Defence of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Lieutenant General (Rtd) Zamir-Ul-Hassan Shah and his delegation are in Brunei Darussalam for the 5th Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) between both countries from August 8 – 10.
Prior to the meeting, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Zamir-Ul-Hassan Shah paid a courtesy call on Deputy Minister of Defence First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue efforts in enhancing the warm and close defence relations between both sides.
Established under the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation signed in 2004, the JDWC serves as a platform for both countries to exchange views on regional security issues of common interest and discuss opportunities to advance the bilateral defence relationship.
The 5th JDWC was co-chaired by Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence and Lieutenant General (Rtd) Zamir-Ul-Hassan Shah.
Also in attendance were High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam Major General (Rtd) Tariq Rashid Khan and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, from Brunei Darussalam’s side, the delegates comprised senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
In the afternoon, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Zamir-Ul-Hassan Shah called on the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Commander Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
Lieutenant General (Rtd) Zamir-Ul-Hassan Shah’s programme also included cultural tours to Kampong Ayer and the Royal Regalia Building.
The visit is a testament to the warm and friendly defence relationship between Brunei Darussalam and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
In addition to the JDWC, both sides interact regularly through exchange of visits by senior defence and military officials, study visits, port calls, courses and trainings.
