MORE than 1,000 Years 7 and 11 students from Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan (CHMS BSB) took part in a walkathon yesterday morning, which began at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, in celebration of the school’s 95th anniversary.
Among those present at the event were Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education, as well as senior officers from the Ministry of Education and members of the CHMS BSB’s Board of Directors.
In his welcoming speech, YB Ong Tiong Oh, a Legislative Council member, in his capacity as Chairman of CHMS BSB, highlighted the school’s illustrious history, including the achievements of its current crop of students and alumni.
He also announced a donation of $3,000 to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA), from the $170,000 collected during the walkathon.
YB Ong presented the mock cheque to Dato Paduka Eddie bin Dato Paduka Haji Sunny, the Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, in his capacity as the Chairman of DANA, in a ceremony witnessed by the Minister of Education.
