A CYCLING recreation, ‘Riadah Berbasikal Kayuhan Jubli Emas’, with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will be held tomorrow.
The event is to enliven the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.
It is organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the starting and ending point of the cycling event is at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
“The recreational cycling activity will commence at 7.30am. However, we encourage participants to arrive at the Taman as early as 6.30am,” said Acting Director of the Department of Youth and Sports, Haji Zafri bin Haji Mohamed, who chaired a press conference yesterday at the Lecture Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
Also present were a representative of the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation, Omarali bin Haji Ibrahim and a medic representative, Semiun bin Awat.
Haji Zafri urged citizens and cycling enthusiasts to grab this opportunity to meet and join in the recreational activity with His Majesty.
Omarali said the activity will cover the capital and pass through the main roads including Jalan Pretty, Jalan Elizabeth II, Jalan Masjid Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, Jalan Kianggeh, Jalan Kumbang Pasang and Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha.
For the last stretch, cyclists will pass by the Royal Regalia Building before heading back to the Taman.
Semiun said that his medic team will provide proper preparation for the safe and smooth journey of the cycling participants. The team will provide three ambulance vans and other medical services at several strategic stations.
The event also aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for all.
Collaborating with the organiser MCYS are the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Health as well as the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation.
