HIS Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) officially launched the 7th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj (convocation festival) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.
The festival will be held until October 15.
The annual event marked the start of a celebration period for UNISSA’s graduating students ahead of their convocation ceremony later this month.
His Royal Highness was greeted on arrival at the ICC by Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education, and Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA as Chairman of the Executive Committee for the 7th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj.
The ceremony began with recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa led by YB Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.
After declaring the Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj open in a sabda, His Royal Highness proceeded to tour an exhibition and to officiate the launching of the latest books published by UNISSA.
The books, written by UNISSA lecturers and prominent members of the academic community, are hoped to be a source of reference for researchers and provide a wealth of reading material for the public.
His Royal Highness then ushered to sign a memorabilia of Halalan Tayyiban Research Centre (PPHT). The newly established centre started its research programme in August this year.
The gallery exhibition is participated by several departments and divisions under the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) including Islamic Legal Unit, Halal Food Control Division, Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), Family Advisory Service, Religious Enforcement Division and Syar’ie Prosecution Division.
The Attorney General’s Chambers and Syariah Court, both under the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Prisons Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs are also participating in the 7th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj.
Before leaving the exhibition gallery, His Royal Highness also received a pesambah – a dacing (weighing scale replica) made of copper – from the Rector of UNISSA.
The replica symbolises the theme of the 7th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj, ‘Syariah Memperkasa Generasi Progresif dan Dinamik’ or ‘Syariah Empowers a Progressive and Dynamic Generation’.
During the event, His Royal Highness also took the opportunity to mingle with UNISSA undergraduate students and lecturers.
Throughout the 7th convocation festival, several competitions and academic sessions will be held, among them include a Legal Forum titled Cyber Crime, Tibb Nabawi Forum, Halal Forum, Do You Know Your Law Forum, Client Counselling Competition as well as a Legal Clinic and Halal/Zakat Clinic.
The 7th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj is co-organised by Student Affairs Division, and Syariah and Law Faculty.
The event is held to enliven UNISSA’s Hafl Al-Takharruj ceremony which is held annually to celebrate students who successfully complete their studies.
The event also highlights the roles and contribution of UNISSA to the society in Brunei Darussalam specifically and globally in general, especially in the field of Syariah.
The activities held during the 7th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj also include performances, exhibitions and sales that will be open to the public starting October 9-15 from 8am until 5pm except on Friday when it will be held from 8am until 12 noon and from 2pm until 5pm.
