UBD, UTB students complete ‘Seeds for the Future’ training courses

THE two-week Huawei ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme attended by six students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) concluded on a high note yesterday in a closing ceremony held at the Huawei Headquarters, Shenzhen, China.

The students completed one week of training courses in the telecommunication sector that were aimed at developing local ICT talent and enhancing knowledge transfer.

For the first week of the programme, the students took four days of Chinese Language classes in the School of Continuing Education of Beijing Language and Culture University to get exposed to Chinese culture and language. The language course included comprehensive Chinese, Chinese painting, calligraphy, and others.

While providing a glimpse to the global business operation, cross-cultural work practices may assist the students’ venture towards ICT career path in the future.

The students who joined the programme are Siti Nurzahrah binti Emran who is taking Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science, UBD; Shamsyuhada binti Awang Rais taking Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science, UBD; Fatin Nadhirah binti Haji Juma’ata Sonadey taking Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Systems Engineering, UBD; Muhammad Hanif bin Jumat taking Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Network and Security, UTB; Benjamin Law Jing Fei taking Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical and Engineering, UTB; and Nur Syadza Elyana binti Abdullah Kok of Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical and Engineering Students, UTB.

Attending the closing ceremony was the Vice-Chancellor of UTB Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman. Also present were the Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching and Vice Chancellor of UMS Sabah, Professor Dr Kamaruddin D Mudin.

During the visit, Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah also toured the Huawei F1 Exhibition, Huawei Industry Solutions Centre, Huawei Headquarters and Huawei University.

At the closing ceremony, the CEO and the founder of Huawei, Ren Zhengfei prepared a special gift for all the students with a book called ‘Huawei Leadership: Culture and Connectivity’. The book explores the story of what Ren Zhengfei did differently, how the company he founded reached the top spot, and why Huawei is known as a ‘collective’ and not a private company.
