The Brunei Tourism Board will be organising the Brunei December Festival 2017 with the cooperation of several stakeholders. The festival is aimed at bringing together exciting events and activities organised by various event managers to be held in December in conjunction with the school holidays.
It was shared at the press conference, which took place at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, that the Muslim Youth Camp, which is being organised by the Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs, is one of the events under the Brunei December Festival.
Around 500 participants comprising youth members of mosques are expected to participate in the camp. The programme will also be open to Muslims from Brunei and outside of the country. Muslim youths wishing to participate in the camp are required to register at a mosque, surau or religious hall near their homes.
The Muslim Youth Camp will be taking place in all four districts. In the Tutong District, it will be held at the Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Wakeel Mosque in Kampong Kiudang on December 8-10; in the Temburong District, it will be held at the Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque on December 15-17; in the Belait District, it will be taking place at the Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque in Kuala Belait; and in the Brunei-Muara District, it will be held at Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Kampong Sengkurong on December 29-31.
The camp will feature a number of activities, including participating in Bandarku Ceria, a cleaning campaign, workshops, sports, religious activities, talks, visits, lectures, contests and an ‘Amazing Race’.
Held as one of the annual activities of the Mosque Affairs Department through its Youth Unit under the Imarah Division, the objectives of the Muslim Youth Camp include providing youths with an activity to occupy their time during the school holidays as well as to train the youths to be closer to mosques.
It also has the objectives of leading youths so that they take part in any mosque activities and familiarise them with healthy socialising with the surrounding community, as well as to provide knowledge and strengthen moral values.
Additionally, the event is also aimed at providing youths from abroad or tourists to participate and learn about mosque affairs and Islamic history in Brunei Darussalam.
