The proceedings began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by a welcome speech from Wang Xiaolin, the General Manager of BOCHK Brunei Branch.
The general manager was then joined on stage by the Managing Director of AMBD as well as Yang Jian, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam to participate in a cake cutting-ceremony.
This was followed by the presentation of a $10,000 donation from BOCHK Brunei Branch to Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait. A mock cheque was presented by the BOCHK Brunei Branch General Manager to Liu Xiaoyuan, the school’s chairman, on behalf of the school.
After the presentation of the cheque, the general manager presented a souvenir to the Managing Director of AMBD as a token of appreciation.
The event also featured a video presentation on the BOCHK Brunei Branch as well as a number of cultural performances.
Wang Xiaolin said, “With China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, Bank of China (Hong Kong) has established its presence in Brunei Darussalam for over a year since December 20, 2016,” in his welcoming remarks.
“Over the last year, we have made a lot of friends and learnt a lot about Brunei’s society and culture and we foresee a prosperous future ahead for Brunei Darussalam. We have gained in many aspects more than what we have anticipated.
“Brunei has made significant progress in economic diversification in recent years. Coincidentally, both China and Brunei have set a national vision for 2035. We look forward to more economic cooperation between China and Brunei, and creating more business opportunities for local development.
“We are confident of the economic development of Brunei Darussalam in this new era, and we hope to bring about new banking experiences to the local community,” he added.
