A GROUP of 12 retired professionals from Osaka, Japan, received a warm welcome from teachers of Meragang Sixth Form Centre (PTE Meragang) during their visit to the school yesterday.
Khairul Ikhwan bin Md Salleh, the Deputy Principal (Academic); Hajah Tiamah binti Haji Dollah, Deputy Principal of Administration; and teachers welcomed the Japanese visitors.
Following a tour, the visitors were briefed about the school. According to the deputy principal, the school currently has 398 Upper Sixth students, with the absence of the Lower Sixth students due to pending release of the ‘O’ Level examination results.
PTE Meragang has the second largest students’ population with 21 subjects offered for students, the majority of the subjects taught in English.
The Japanese visitors also tried out a local delicacy of Ambuyat and witnessed a Gulingtangan performance.
One of the visitors, Okabe Takeshi, was impressed with the school facilities. “The standard of the facilities is higher than what we have in Japan,” he said.
Okabe, who is from the construction industry, added, “We are very impressed with the warm welcome and hospitality by the teachers of this school. Although we were not able to personally see any classes in session, we already have the impression that students here are all in good hands.”
Asked about his opinion on Ambuyat, the 77-year-old said, “The sauce was a bit spicy but I enjoyed the fruits and the curry dishes.”
The Japanese delegation is in the country on a four-day visit. They will also visit several other places of interest in the country.
