SAMUDRA RSC recovered from being a goal down against Perkasa after efforts from Boy Rahman and Ismail bin Mahmud helped them to a narrow 2-1 win in the Coneli League 2017/18 at the Miri City Council recently.
The victory lifted them to eighth in the table and sparked hopes to elevate their targets from a top 10 to a top five finish.
In the first half, Samudra tested their opponents’ defence with numerous attempts but the opposition held firm.
In the second half, Perkasa took the lead and as Samudra were stunned by an early setback, they changed their pattern of play by making a string of attacks.
Perkasa’s resistance were finally broken after Samudra defender Jefri sent a long ball forward to Boy Rahman, who deceived the defence and scored to get his side back in the game.
Samudra found a crucial winner after Ismail nodded home a corner from Madd Kool.
Samudra are now only three points behind fifth-placed Wisma RSC with 17 and will play strugglers Mulu FC next on Sunday.
“Our win against Perkasa has made the players to be more highly motivated to finish the season in the top 5. Efforts towards this will be enhanced through training,” said Samudra RSC team manager Kassim Haji Ibrahim.
“I am proud with the true spirit from every Samudra RSC player after winning (against Perkasa). To all the Samudra RSC players, I hope that they will continue their efforts to increase their stamina and continue their fighting spirit to face difficult matches against Mulu and Wisma,” the team manager said.
